Spanish Tax and Customs
The UK and Spain have implemented a double tax agreement, which came into effect on 12th June 2014. The deal prevents people and businesses from paying tax twice on income and is not EU legislation, which means that it has stayed in effect even after Brexit. VAT in Spain is known as IVA, and its standard rate is 21%. There are also two lower rates available: a 10% rate that generally applies to products for human consumption such as water, plants and housing, but also animal medicine; and a 4% rate that applies to specific food products, medicine, books and other educational materials. When shipping to Spain, all goods will be subject to VAT unless they are specifically exempt.
